Gary Who? Michael Jackson Takes the Spotlight in Budapest Avenue Q

Yesterday we reported that the role of former child star Gary Coleman in Avenue Q would now be played by a man for the show's off-Broadway transfer. But why was the part played by a woman in the first place? Simple: The authors found it funnier that way. Unlike most shows, Avenue Q has been rethought multiple times by the creators. In fact, we found the video clip below of the show's Budapest premiere production at the Centrál Színház theater in Budapest which features the late, great Michael Jackson in place of Coleman. Whatchutalkinabout, Hungary? It's true, as is the show's unfortunate Jackson plot, which explains he took the working-class job on Avenue Q after two six-year-old boys sued him for his entire esstate.
